Hello,
I'm Ron.
This is a brief history of Cruisers Classics.
Cruisers Classics / Kevron Motors started in 1989 as an "after hours shop"
operating in the Metha Motors garage in Elmhurst, IL.
In mid 1990 Kevron had grown and needed its own space so we leased an old gas
station building in Lyons, IL.
There Kevron Motors became Kevron Auto Corp.
About 1992 Kevron outgrew the 3 bay shop and found a much larger facility in
Willowbrook, IL.
There Kevron Auto Corp expanded into: Kevron Auto Care, Kevron Auto Parts,
Anytime Towing and Kevron RV Rental.
This was always more than enough work to keep Kevin and Ron (a.k.a. Cruiser)
very busy with the business, customers and employees.
Business was great but Cruiser's heart was more into Classic Cars, Cycles,
Wooden Boats, and Machinery from an earlier time.
After several years of operating there as a licensed business the wonderful
village of Willowbrook changed the property's zoning.
After an unsuccessful protest, Kevron had to cease operations at this location
in late 1999.
Kevron Corp was gone and we were fortunate to be able to store most of our stuff
on the property of a very good friend (another old car nut) in the Newark, IL
area.
There Cruiser continued with his passion for working on old cars, cycles, etc.
In 2002 the former Geo. Cook Chevrolet (1939 - 195?) building in downtown
Newark was put up for sale.
This was the start of Cruisers Classics / Restoration Services LTD and
Cruisers new home.
We Restore "Stuff" - it's what we do...
RESTORATION: Pronunciation: "res-t&-'rA-sh&n
1 : an act of restoring or the condition of being restored
: as a : a bringing back to a former position or condition :
REINSTATEMENT <the restoration of peace>
b
: RESTITUTION c : a restoring
to an unimpaired or improved condition <the restoration of a painting>
d
: the replacing of missing teeth or crowns
2 : something that is restored; especially : a
representation or reconstruction of the original form (as of a fossil or a
building)
In the process of returning an old/classic
something into useable or original condition or when doing a custom
reengineering of a piece for function, performance, looks, or whatever the
reason, new replacement parts are not always available or the best option.
So it
becomes necessary to refurbish many original subparts, or to fabricate new ones.
How to do this?
Well, many times there already exists a service
company which specializes in, lets say, generator rebuilding and they will do a
fine job of rebuilding the generator you sent to them. More often than not,
lately, they want to do an exchange, you get a similar but
not your original generator back. That may be fine for some things but
not others. Over the years I have found myself rebuilding, reengineering,
modifying, or just making pieces look good, to the extent that I have gained
much experience (and equipment/tools) in component rehab. Now I also have common
sense enough not to "reinvent the wheel" here. I have been able to sort
through many rebuilders and suppliers over the years, and to the good ones (that
are still around) I send all the work I can. This frees us up to do more and
keeps the costs down.
So what else can we RESTORE ?
A LOT!
If you've been around as long as I have you may
remember a TV show named
"HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL" .
I have a version of that going here...
HAVE; Torches, Welder, Lathe,
Mill, Large Horizontal Band Saw, Real Steam & High Pressure Washer, Sand
Blasters, Hoists, Lifts, Porta-Power, Grinders, Chop Saws, Big Pry Bars, Even
Bigger Hammers, and all the Test Stuff and Tools, and then some,
WILL TRAVEL.
With a Truck/Trailer to
come get your project, that is!
Q. SO WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?
A. JUST ABOUT ANYTHING!
